EVENING, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

the sunsets over lake Nipissing are always different and very colourful. This lake always fascinates me but I also know how careful you have to be when photographing sunsets because the images can become simple calendar pictures.

LIGHT and TEXTURE, LAKE NIPISSING

What attracted me was of course the backlit rocks and water which created pure texture. The dark rock holds this image together because it is simply texture and light.

SANDBANK, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

As I expained earlier Lake Nipissing has a varied shoreline. This image shows a more subtle view of the lake. Because you have very lttle refence about size this sandbank has the appearance of an aerial view.

RAIN STORM, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

The skies over Lake Nipissing can be spectacular. Here a rain storm is moving across the lake.To me this image is reminiscent of paintings by the 17th century Dutch landscape painter Jacob Ruysdael.

FIRST ROCKY, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

I have lived for many years on the shores of lake Nipissing. This lake is a very prominent feature here in North Bay. I like this lake because it is unique. It is a large lake and reminds me of the ocean. Because of the shallowness of this lake it can become quite wild with large waves. The shore line is also very varied from sandy beaches to nice rock formations.I hope you will enjoy these images.Forr this image I used a Rolleiflex with a 80 mm Planar lens.

ALLEY, OTTAWA, ONTARIO

Any empty walls, even in small alleys, are irrresistible to grafriti artists. Of course it makes for an interesting abstract image dominated by colour.Camera: Olympus C8080w

MAGNETAWAN, ONTARIO

Walking by a burn out building in the town of Magnetawan, I noticed the colours which reminded me of the traditional Greek colour scheme. The ragged edges of the burnt wood reinforced the impression of old ruins.Camera: F-108s with Nikkor 28 to 105 macro zoom.

STORE WINDOW, PORTLAND,OR

Noticed this store window when walking around Portland looking for pictures. I have no idea what it means but liked the fluid design of the lettering.

WALL, ELORA, ONTARIO

A wall from an old abandoned factory in Elora gave me this image . The almost violent slashes and the black paint in combination with a colour palette of earth colours made a fine abstract image. Camera: Olympus C8080w

DOOR, PORTLAND, OR

This image looks more like an abstract painting than a straight photograph. I noticed this door while wandering through Portland.

OLD CORRUGATED WALL

NO TITLE

I enjoy discovering and photographing subjects, which have no realistic meaning. They become abstract images which can challenge and delight through pure colour or design.
Camera: Nikon F5 with Nikkor 105mm Macro lens

PEGGY'S COVE, NOVA SCOTIA

Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia is probably the most visited spot in that province or, for that matter, in the Maritimes. It is not only the lighthouse but also the unusually interesting rocky landscape. This picture was made late in the evening on fast film. The light was almost gone but it ended up as one of my favourite images.

NEAR PEGGY'S COVE, NOVA SCOTIA

This image is from the other coast. I took this image near Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. The area is strewn with hugh boulders which make for very interesting images. This picture was taken on black and white film using a Nikon F-801s with a 24 mm lens.

OLD MILL, COBALT, ONTARIO

Visited Cobalt, Ontario yesterday. The place is a grim reminder of the damage we do to the earth in order to extract what we need. In this case its silver. The basis for photographic film and paper. I have taken many pictures of Cobalt over the years and will publish a series later on my blog.Camer: Olympus C8080W

OLD BARN NEAR VERNER, ONTARIO

For me black and white photography is still the most satisfying way of expression. Just as in the traditional darkroom you can manipulate the image to get the desired result. The picture of this barn was actually done by combining four negatives into this wideangle picture.
